Art Exhibition: Identity February 5 - 29, 2008 Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, Noon - 4 p.m. The works of Evans Molina and Patricia Schreiber will be on display working on the theme of Identity. Evans Molina is an artist who investigates the theme of identity in his work. Evans’ paintings are a visually complex web of images. His paintings incorporate memory and history with an enormous amount of vitality. Personal identity is at the core of his work. He is acutely aware of culture and mythology and how these components are tools in evolving our personal sense of identity. Patricia Schreiber's monoprints will be on display. Wherever she has lived, she's searched for such places to fill the artists needs, in order to make pictures - light and space. For much of her adult life she has lived and worked in such buildings. They may appear dark and gloomy to some people, but she always sees them for potential for light, space, and the freedom to do what she wants, and say what she wants to say, within their big, secure walls Opening Reception: February 19th from 5 - 7 p.m. Includes a performance by artist and performer Evans Molina There will be a performance art performed by Cuban artist Evans Molina at 6:00pm. The concept of the performance is to connect the physical and the metaphysical, the spiritual and the secular, the immigrant and the new land. The main visual affect will be to bring the painting of Evans Molina to life. Through the performance Evans will add sound, motion and three dimensionality to his pieces, specifically ¨Danza Inidgenia a la Materia¨. Evans will by dancing in a mask and costume that he has created, inspired by the Afro Cuban culture. His dance will be performed as a ritual. There will be images of Cuba projected over Evans´ body throughout the dance. He will be using music, both recorded and live. Through the costume, decoration and dance the public will be able to see a connection between the modern world and the world of the past.
